Painting the Backlit Portrait with Caroline Nelson

Painting the Backlit Portrait with Caroline Nelson

March 11-13 : Livestream through Atelier Live 11am-2pm ET daily

Approaching portraiture from a different perspective, Caroline Nelson shares her experience in painting backlit portraits. With a focus on value compression, Caroline will demonstrate and explain her process of balancing values in order to create the subtle, yet effective value structure necessary for a successful backlit portrait.

She will also share how she composes her portraits, her method for blocking-in and transferring her preliminary drawing, and how she builds the layers through an indirect method of painting.

Each day will be a combination of demonstration and answering the participants’ questions during the livestream.

Contents will include Caroline’s materials list and reference images.
